NKD Summer Picnic

Our annual summer picnic will be Saturday, September 6 in the Mount Prospect Park lawn area (entrance on Eastern Parkway between the Brooklyn Museum and the Brooklyn Public Library) from 12 noon to 3 pm.

It's a great chance to socialize with and get to know other NKD members, whether you are a veteran organizer or totally new. All are welcome, including any friends and family who want to join!

It's BYO-everything, so bring food, drinks, blankets, chairs, and any activities or games that might be fun. Extra for sharing is great, but no pressure — see you there!

RSVP here for reminders and updates.

New Kings Democrats Endorse Zohran Mamdani for NYC Mayor in General Election

New Kings Democrats members have endorsed Democratic nominee Zohran Mamdani for NYC mayor in the 2025 general election!

Typically NKD doesn’t make endorsements in the general election — as a Democratic club we don't need to take a vote to support Democrats against Republicans. But the circumstances of this election are unusual: There are two former Democrats running as independents, and our primary endorsement of Zohran was as part of our first ever multi-candidate endorsement, so it makes sense to clarify who we're supporting in the general.

July 24 General Meeting

NKD's next General Meeting will be on Thursday July 24 at 7pm at First Unitarian in Brooklyn Heights (121 Pierrepont), in-person only this time. RSVP HERE. Agenda:
  • Analysis of the June primary and what it means for our goals
  • Planning for the general election, and for District Leader races next year
  • Policy: Discussion of the Charter Revision proposals
  • Social Action: How can we help educate and defend neighbors from ICE?
  • Orientation for new members
  • UPDATE* Mayoral endorsement vote. Normally we don't do endorsement votes for the general election — as a Democratic club we don't need to take a vote to support Dems against Republicans. But the circumstances of this election are unusual: there are two former Democrats running as independents, and our initial endorsement of Zohran was as part of a multi-candidate endorsement, so it makes sense to take a vote to clarify who we're supporting in the general.

We'll also have breakout groups for working on some of these issues. RSVP here, and we'll see you on 7/24!
