General Meeting May 13

NKD's next General Meeting will be Saturday May 13th at 3:30pm. We hope you'll join us. This meeting will be in-person only at Minnie's Bar (885 4th Ave. in Sunset Park).

At this meeting, we will discuss organizing plans for the June Primary and other ways to get involved as we prepare for ongoing Party reform, Brooklyn Can't Wait 2024, and Rep Your Block 2024. We'll also host some breakout groups where you can talk with other members about projects that interest you.

After the meeting, stick around to watch the international song competition Eurovision with us! It has a complicated and arcane voting process... sure to delight (and possibly trigger) veterans of Brooklyn politics. 🤣

Jordan Neely

We issued a statement about the killing of Jordan Neely earlier this week. You can read the text of the statement below and amplify it on Twitter and Instagram.

Our allies at Jews for Racial & Economic Justice are holding a public safety canvass in honor of Jordan Neely this Sunday at 2pm. RSVP here.

New York Failed Jordan Neely

Jordan Neely was a New Yorker like us – our neighbor. His brutal killing by a fellow subway rider and the series of institutional failures that led up to it are another example of how our city devalues people living with mental illness and in poverty.

We are disappointed to see elected officials using using passive language and misdirection in this moment, and reject attempts to describe this as anything other than what it was: an unjustified homicide.

NKD will continue supporting elected officials and organizations that are condemning vigilantism, calling for justice, and advocating for repairs to our frayed social safety net.
