June 25 Judicial Elections: NKD’s Explainer and Voter Guide

With judicial elections around the corner, NKD thought it was important to shed some light on who’s on the ballot and how they got there. To that end, we’ve prepared two documents that we hope will help you make your decisions on June 25:

First, check out our explainer, which sets the stage for the upcoming races by getting into the weeds about what the various courts actually do and how the elections to fill judicial seats work. It also dives into how the Kings County Democratic Committee exerts influence on the judicial election process, how it benefits from this influence, and the various efforts that have been made to reform the Party’s role in the process.

Once you have a handle on this history, you can look at our voter guide, which has information about all of the candidates running for Civil Court and Surrogate’s Court seats in Brooklyn this election cycle. Six of the nine candidates filled out questionnaires we created to get more information on their backgrounds and philosophies, and you can find links to those questionnaires in the voter guide, as well as excerpts from their answers.

If you have any questions about the above, please feel free to reach out to VP of Policy Mariana Alexander (for information on the explainer) or VP of Political Affairs Emily Hoffman (for information on the voter guide). Happy voting!
