At our September general meeting, we voted to elect two new leaders for Rep Your Block, our campaign to help Brooklyn residents run for County Committee seats:
Maggie Moore — Campaign Director
Emmitt Sklar — Partnerships Coordinator
Congratulations to Maggie and Emmitt, and thanks to everyone who ran and participated in this process. There will be many more opportunities to volunteer for important roles in Rep Your Block—email us at [email protected] if you're interested!
Important note: We've heard that someone in the meeting sent hostile messages to one of the candidates using Zoom chat. This is not acceptable. We don't want anyone to feel unwelcome in our meetings, and we hope you'll help us uphold higher standards in the future. Democracy can be messy, but in this all-volunteer organization everyone who participates in our work deserves to be treated with respect, even when we disagree.
NKD members also voted to adopt a new Rep Your Block Charter, which sets out some goals for our 2022 campaign to help more Brooklyn residents run for County Committee.
Criminal Justice Reform Platform
We also voted to adopt a new Criminal Justice Reform Platform. Email Genevieve at [email protected] if you want to plug in to our work on this or any other policy area.
We've also learned that party leaders are planning a County Committee meeting later this year, though we don't know details. NKD has joined the ADC Chairs in AD 44, 50, 51, 52 and 57 in asking the Party Chair to invite the Brooklyn Commissioner for the Board of Elections to speak with County Committee members at this meeting. We'll let you know as soon as we hear any details!
