About the candidate: State Senator Kevin Parker was first elected to the State Senate in 2002. A darling of the problematic Brooklyn political machine, Parker is known for angry, violent outbursts and anti-LGBTQ+ rhetoric.

About the candidate: Kaegan Mays-Williams is Policy Counsel at Everytown for Gun Safety and a former Manhattan Assistant District Attorney. She joined the DA’s office to both increase representation of Black women in the field and to offer humanity and understanding to vulnerable communities.

What stands out about their platform or candidacy: Mays-Williams is focused on giving power back to her neighbors, who have been shut out of the political process. Her platform emphasizes safe and affordable housing, access to equitable and fully funded public education, access to daily and nutritious meals, and affordable and accessible healthcare. If elected, Mays-Williams will be the first black LGBTQ+ woman to serve in the State Senate.
